Rob and I met a year ago, each of us with homes along Maine’s Kennebec River waterway, both of us happiest when on the water. After surfing nearby last fall, I told Rob I wanted to buy a house in Phippsburg. He had always wanted a house near Popham Beach and sent me a link to the Sam Day Hill House. We drove there that day, made an offer the next, and moved in during a snowstorm.

We’ve enjoyed setting up the Sam Day Hill House for good living, from the Penzey’s spices to the cork yoga mats to the LL Bean rugs. We’ve also really enjoyed staying at our dream home, walking Popham Beach at low tide, sweating at the Cedar Grove saunas, plunging in the mouth of the Kennebec River, cooking fresh ingredients from Bath Natural Market, hiking around our property, sledding down the hill, watching the sun rise from the porch. Summer may be the most popular time of year to visit Maine’s coast, but the off-season is pure magic.
